INDICATOR

Generation of waste excluding major mineral wastes (kg/capita)

The indicator is defined as all waste generated in a country per inhabitant and year, excluding mineral wastes, dredging spoils and contaminated soils.

Recycling rate of waste excluding mineral wastes (%)

The indicator “recycling rate of waste excluding mineral wastes” is defined as the volume of waste recycled in the country per year divided by the volume of the waste treated in the same year.

Landfill rate of waste excluding mineral wastes (%)

The indicator “landfill rate of waste excluding mineral wastes” is defined as the volume of waste landfilled in a country per year divided by the volume of the waste treated in the same year.

Resource productivity (EUR 2010/kg)

Resource productivity is gross domestic product divided by domestic material consumption.
Data for 2019 have been revised.

Average CO2 emissions per km from new passenger cars (g CO2 per km)

This indicator is defined as the average emissions of carbon dioxide per kilometre by new passenger cars registered in a given year.
Break in time series in 2021.
Data for 2021 are provisional.

Volume of freight transport relative to gross domestic product (index, 2010 = 100)

The indicator is defined as the ratio between tonne-kilometres (inland transport only) and gross domestic product (chain-linked volumes, at 2010 exchange rates).
From 2023 onwards, the indicator for all EU countries is calculated according to a slightly changed methodology, namely the changed unit - now index (2015 = 100), before index (2010 = 100).

Food waste generation (kg/capita)

The indicator is defined as all food waste generated in a country per inhabitant and year.
Data for 2020 and 2021 have been revised.
