ITEMS
Nitrogen inputs
Nitrogen inputs comprise nitrogen in all forms entered in soil with seeds and planting materials, fertilisers, biological fixation, atmospheric deposition and with crop residues expressed in kg and calculated per ha of utilised agricultural area.
Nitrogen outputs
Nitrogen outputs comprise nitrogen in all forms extracted from the soil in harvested crops, in harvested or grazed fodder and in crop residues removed from the field expressed in kg and calculated per ha of utilised agricultural area.
Gross balance surplus
Gross nitrogen surplus is nitrogen inputs less nitrogen outputs. The surplus of nitrogen in soil represents the negative influence of agriculture on environment and is the basis for an indirect assessment of water, air and soil pollution with nitrogen substances.
Net balance surplus
Net nitrogen surplus is gross nitrogen surplus reduced by the nitrogen emission to the air and calculated per ha of utilised agricultural area. It comprises nitrogen remaining as surplus in the soil and part of nitrogen which is potentially leached and run-off to the water.
